3 MINUTES TO IMPACT
Emmy-winning Blockbuster

2 x 52’
Science Special
Good for TV, DVD, CVD and Video.
Release 1997

Commissioned by Discovery Channel (USA), this two-part special is a gripping analysis of the threat to Planet Earth of the asteroids and comets that hurtle through the inner Solar System.  The chances of being killed by a rock from space are greater than dying in an air crash.  Each year, 50-thousand tonnes of space debris falls on Earth.  We are under constant bombardment.

3 Minutes to Impact is a powerful mix of animation, location shooting and contributions from the world’s leading planetary scientists including the late Eugene Shoemaker, co-discoverer of Comet Shoemarker-Levy 9 which collided with Jupiter.  The programmes were shot in Brazil, Australia, Japan, Mexico, the USA, Canada and the UK.

3 Minutes to Impact was described by Mike Quattrone, Discovery’s VP Production, as the best production ever delivered to his channel.  In 1998, the writers were awarded an Emmy for creative writing.
